Meet Dr. Alvord
Dr. Darron R. Alvord attended the Medical College of Georgia College of Dental Medicine for his dental education and his residency in Periodontics. Dr. Alvord is a diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and is board certified in periodontics. He is proficient in all aspects of periodontal and implant therapies and is focused on helping patients understand their individual condition and treatment options, and then assisting them in achieving their treatment goals.
Dr. Alvord is a volunteer Clinical Faculty in the Department of Periodontics at the Dental College of Georgia, and values education highly. He participates regularly in continuing education and maintains current membership in the following dental organizations: American Dental Association, Georgia Dental Association, American Academy of Periodontology, Southern Academy of Periodontology, Georgia Society of Periodontists, and the International College of Oral Implantologists.
Dr. Alvord was awarded the 2016 JAG20 Emerging Alumni Leader Award, recognizing him as an alumni under age 40 who has made a significant impact in his career, community, and university. In 2013 Dr. Alvord was the single recipient of the Gerald M. Kramer Scholar Award for Excellence by the American Academy of Periodontology Foundation. This national award is given annually to one 3rd-year periodontal resident who has exhibited excellence in character and academic achievement. During his dental education he was nominated by his classmates and MCG Faculty, and awarded the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Professionalism Award and the International College of Dentists Leadership Award. Dr. Alvord is an Eagle Scout, and earned his Silver Eagle Palm. He maintains an active service role in the Southern Academy of Periodontology, the Georgia Society of Periodontists, Georgia Dental Association, the Metropolitan Savannah Rotary Club, and in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints here in Savannah.
Dr. Alvord was born and raised in Utah and attended Brigham Young University. While attending BYU, his favorite job was as a ski instructor at Deer Valley Ski Resort in Park City, Utah. He married LuAnne Jones, and soon after they moved to Augusta to further his dental education. In his free time, he enjoys cycling, golfing, outdoor activities and spending time with his family. They are very happy to be settled in the warm southern traditions of Savannah, and are looking forward to raising their son and daughter here.
